The Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment in Birmingham City University conducts research across disciplines related to the latest developments in the built and natural environment, computing technologies, engineering systems, and bio­energies.

The research also informs the academic degree programmes, with emerging technologies and new developments ensuring that courses remain relevant and up­to­date. Rehan Bhana has an entrepreneurial origin with experience of international business and culture, which has been instrumental for many students in their careers. As Senior Academic of Strategic Academic Alliance in the School of Computing Telecommunications and Networks, Rehan leads the development of innovative practice-based curriculum; the students learning experience; and partnerships and collaborations. Strategic links of the Faculty with the Birmingham City Council result in many collaboration opportunities such as the access to the Birmingham Living Lab datasets.
